WUXI, China (Oct 21, 2025) – Excitement for the upcoming Wuxi 2025 World Taekwondo Championships reached new heights today as World Taekwondo and local organizers hosted a press conference at the World Hotel Grand Juna, just three days before the start of the global event.
The press conference drew strong interest from Chinese media as China prepares to host the World Championships for the first time in 18 years since Beijing 2007. Distinguished speakers included Dr. Chungwon Choue, President of World Taekwondo; Mr. Jeongkang Seo, Secretary General of World Taekwondo; Mr. Philippe Bouedo, World Taekwondo Technical Delegate; Ms. Zhong Chen, Vice President of the Chinese Taekwondo Association; and Ms. Yi Chen, Director of the Wuxi Municipal Sports Bureau. Local athletes Zhaoxun Cai (bronze medalist at the Da Nang 2024 Asian Taekwondo Championships) and Chuling Zhang (silver medalist at the Wuxi 2024 World Taekwondo Grand Slam Challenge) also attended, alongside World Taekwondo Vice Presidents and Council Members.
Dr. Choue said, “With a record 991 athletes from 179 MNAs + AIN + WT + Refugee Team, this Championships will once again demonstrate Taekwondo’s remarkable global growth and spirit of unity,” adding that “Wuxi is set to witness another historic moment.”
Following Dr. Choue’s remarks, Ms. Zhong Chen, Vice President of the Chinese Taekwondo Association, stated that the organizers will provide the best possible venues and support for athletes to ensure a truly successful event. The two local athletes, Cai and Zhang, expressed their determination to uphold the values of friendship and fair play as they compete alongside athletes from around the world.
The World Taekwondo Championships will take place from October 24–30 at the Wuxi Taihu International Expo Center, marking the largest edition in history. The tournament will feature Olympic champions from Paris 2024 and performances by the World Taekwondo Demonstration Team, Poomsae medalists, and a Virtual Taekwondo Experience Zone for fans.
On October 23, the World Taekwondo General Assembly will convene ahead of the Championships to elect the organization’s leadership for the 2025–2029 term.
With record participation and strong domestic engagement, the Wuxi 2025 World Taekwondo Championships promise to be a landmark event celebrating both athletic excellence and the sport’s enduring global values.
