Bahrain 2024: Great Britain steals the show; hosts Bahrain gets first gold on final day

 

MANAMA, Bahrain (Nov 27, 2024) - The curtains came down on the 1st World Para Taekwondo Poomsae Championships with nine gold medallists awarded here this evening. 

 

Great Britain clinched two gold medals while Mexico, Morocco, Germany, Croatia, Australia, India and Bahrain topped the podium once each on the second day of competitions.

 

Bradley Brockies lived up to the expectations demonstrating amazing skills to win the P21 Senior Male gold medal, while Summer Waheed matched her compatriot to bag the P21 Senior Female event. 

 

Bilal El Khattabi clinched the third gold for Morocco triumphing in the P31 Senior Male final even as Gabriel Josafat Solano Castillo topped the podium for Mexico in P23 Senior Male event. 

 

 

 

Arndt Mallepree fetched Germany its first Championships gold medal on the final day winning the P34 Senior Male final, while Australia’s Janine Watson topped the podium in the female category. 

 

The hosts Bahrain won their first gold medal at the championships thanks to the efforts of Zaina Albalooshi who showed a lot of confidence to top in P72 Senior Female event.

 

Meanwhile, Moorthy Thirupathi claimed the gold for India in P72 Senior Male final. 

 

Morocco top Medal Standings

 

At the end of the competitions, Morocco topped the medals standings with three gold medals followed by Croatia and Great Britain with two gold medals each.

 

Hosts Bahrain finished in fifth place with one gold and two silver medals.

 

A record 140 athletes from 23 countries, in addition to Individual Neutral Athletes (AINs), representing all five regions are participating in the two-day event.

 

The World Para Taekwondo Poomsae Championships will be followed by Bahrain 2024 Para Taekwondo Open on Friday (November 29).

 


A total of 57 athletes representing 14 countries from three regions and one neutral athlete. will compete in the last Kyorugi world ranking event of 2024.
